Over Labor Day weekend, we got to shoot one of the most emotional weddings we’ve ever been to. From the ceremony to the toasts, I was trying not to tear up over all the sweetness that I saw.
I met Ben Purcell and Megan Massey last fall. I did a photoshoot with them one snowy day in the winter and then their full engagement shoot this past summer.
Ben and Megan are such a nice couple. They are both very involved in the youth programs at First Baptist Church here in Somerset — they actually met through church — and are very spiritual people. You could actually feel that through the entirety of their wedding, which made everything feel really special.
They were married at The Barn at Goose Creek in Russell Springs, which is a gorgeous venue with an upscale-country feel. Megan in particular loves Disney World (which is where she and Ben got engaged), and she incorporated little Disney touches into their day. They played songs from Disney, and they received a ceramic Mickey and Minnie bride and groom as a gift.
Ben loves golf, so the groom’s cake was themed after the sport, and the groomsmen wore golf socks, which was funny.
Actually, everyone in the wedding party was just really fun. You could tell they had good relationships — two of Megan’s bridesmaids were actually her sisters. Little Pike McClung was the ring bearer and, to keep him on track, one of the other boys kept feeding him Smarties, which was hilarious. He did great.
One of my favorite touches of their day was they served breakfast food for their dinner reception meal. I actually got to try chocolate gravy for the first time, which was really neat (and delicious).
Because of Hurricane Dorian, Megan had to rearrange their honeymoon cruise the day before the wedding — ugh, stressful! But she managed to rebook everything, and they are now in Jamaica. I hope they’re having a wonderful time. Thanks, Ben and Megan, for sharing your day with us. It’s one I won’t forget!
